Archie Green and Miners' Songs
Contains chapters 1 and 12, and pages 186 and 248 of Archie Green, ‘Only a Miner’, (Urbana: University of Illinois, 1972), Philip S. Foner, American Labor Songs of the Nineteenth Century’, (Urbana: University of Illinois, 1975), pp 200-205. Also includes sheet music for songs ‘Which Side are You on?’ and ‘Miner’s Life is Like a Sailor’s’, extracted from the publications of ‘Songs of Work and Protest’ and ‘Come All ye Bold Miners’.
Dane + Silber
Contains the sheet music and lyrics for ‘Hell No! I Ain’t Gonna Go!’, ‘Last Drink with Don’ and a contents page. The documents are extracted from Barbara Dane + Irwin Silber, ‘The Vietnam Songbook’, (New York: The Guardian Press, 1969).
Gold Fever
A collection of correspondence, a section of a script, handwritten notes, song lyrics and sheet music. The correspondence is between LC and Robin Maconie and regards the development of ‘Gold Fever: A Ballad Opera’. The piece of music is titled ‘The Canterbury Goldfield’. The correspondence is dated 2006-2007, which is the only indication of dates in the collection. The paper quality of other documents suggests a significantly older date.
Italians - Arch Scott
Contains some hand written songs that were sourced from an interview with Arch Scott, a former P.O.W. IN 1987. The songs, in Italian, are from Belluno Partisans. Photocopies also included. The dates of the original songs are unspecified. Contains the music score of Marcelo Manni, ‘Le Canzoni Del Fascismo’, (Firenze: Manno Manni, 1921).
Misc. Notes About Songs
A collection of photocopied sheet music, a guitar notation guide, handwritten notes, printed articles and a ‘Maoriland’ Christmas 45 RPM record. The songs are about war, frontier life and the general back country experience. They are separated by source. The handwritten notes demonstrate the processes of research and obtaining the sources of the music. Including the original dates of the sheet music, the publication date range is c. 1915-1985.

The Copying Machine
A collection of handwritten notes, song lyrics and sheet music. The songs all appear to be frontier ballads, presumably being used in the development of ‘Gold Fever: A Ballad Opera’. The only dated document is the lyric sheet of “Coastie”, handwritten at the bottom is “Joe Charles, 1960”.
