Throughout the collection are featured ‘jokes’, and the articles either chronicle instances of pranking or use colloquialisms or sayings that contribute the what the overall collection is trying to demonstrate. The date range of the content is c. 1918-1947.

A section of the Underwood collection that contains typed script, correspondence, pictures, poems, and general handwritten notes. Documents certain mythical creatures such as ‘Bilikin’, ‘Blivils and Finkles’, the ‘Key Bird’, Snallygasters/Snallygosters and ‘Squimp’. Many of these were developed within 20th century war periods. The date range of the content is c. 1943-1947 with the subject matter referencing WWI times (1914-1918).

A section of the Underwood collection that contains typed script, correspondence and photocopied newspapers and articles. The primary focus of the collection is on the fabled character of ‘Kilroy’ and the origin of the ‘Kilroy was here’ tagging tradition that bred out of WWII (which appears to be disputed). The date range of the content is c. 1947-1962.

A section of the Underwood collection that contains photocopies of handwritten profiles of soldiers and women, general handwritten notes, vocabulary lists, newspapers and articles and correspondence. Demonstrates how soldiers described one another and the language that was developed between them. The date range of the content is c. 1861-1948 (concentrated towards the end of that range).

A section of the Underwood collection that contains photocopied newspapers and articles, a manuscript titled ‘They Had A Word For it’ by Underwood, handwritten notes, glossaries of war time slang and correspondence. Includes various expressions used in the military as well as discussion around their significance. The date range of the content is c. 1943-1964.

Contains a copy of Capon, Shane Harold, ‘The ‘Hamilton Furlough Mutiny’: An Analysis of the Implementation and Consequences of the 1943 Furlough Scheme’, Master of Arts in History, University of Waikato, 1986. Also contains accompanying correspondence with Graham Ward, who sourced the thesis and gifted it to LC. The correspondence occurred in 2004. The subject matter date range is c. 1939-1945.

The collection depicts an array of subjects, although they are predominantly connected to wartime activities. Such wars include the U.S. Civil war, WWI, WWII, the Korean war and the Vietnam war. A reproductive fees notice is dated from 1988. The date range of the original images is c. 1861-1966.

A collection of newspaper clippings. They cover the fear of the invasion itself, unearthing the Wellington Harbour Board’s plans in the event of invasion and what would actually happen if the Japanese had invaded. Publication date range is 1993-2007. The subject matter date range is c. 1942-1989.

Contains one newspaper clipping of a letter to the editor by A.C. Wright, titled ‘Bomb just in time for grateful Kiwi’. Also includes one printed article of, Pacific War Research Board, ‘The Day Man Lost’, (Tokyo: Kodansha International, 1982), pp 170-171, 176-177. The article chronicles the Japanese surrender and the newspaper clippings gives insight of a New Zealand soldier’s perspective of it at the time. Subject matter date range is January to August, 1945.

The negatives are labelled in the handwritten notes as “208-AA-56XX-2 (U.S Army parades in New Zealand)”, “208-AA-276E-1 (New Zealand Coastal Defence)” and “111-SC-377567 (Troops of the 172nd Infantry Regiment, 43rd Division marching to the railway station at Auckland)”. The order form is dated 10/14/2004. The photo print dates the U.S Army parade photo to 1/14/1943.
