Bas Potter
Contains a script copy of ‘The New Zealand Y.M.C.A. with 2 N.Z.E.F. in Middle East and Italy, 1940-1945’, by B.W. Potter. Chronicles the role of the Y.M.C.A. in WWII conflict involving New Zealand soldiers. Also includes photocopied newspaper clippings of Y.M.C.A. advertisements from 1918 and 1921. The date of the script is unknown, however the subject matter of the folder as a whole is c.1918-1945.
Cairo
A collection of handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, printed articles and the photocopied Y.M.C.A. diary of B. Shepherd. The general theme of the collection is the soldiers’ experience in Cairo during the North African campaign. This includes entertainment and music, sites and activities, and one specific report of Indian hemp in the soldiers’ cigarettes. The publication date range is c. 1940-1984. The subject matter includes dates from 1915 onwards.
