Koro Dewes Collection - oral histories and waiata gathered by Kapunga Matemoana ('Koro') Dewes in the 1960's-1970's
This collection consists of copies of recordings made by Koro Dewes. Recorded from the 1950s to 1970s in Te Reo Māori, with some English, it contains whaikōrero, tikanga, whakapapa, waiata, hui, and oral histories. Though previously primarily associated with Ngāti Porou this collection contains recordings from across the motu.
Maori Battalion
Contains the original and a photocopy of a Victoria University Department of Anthropology welcoming and lamenting waiata in both Maori and translated into English. The translation is accompanied with comments and annotations about its use with the Maori Battalion in WWII. It appears that the document was given to LC by Bernie Kernot [?]. The original copy was published May 1968 and the translation was done September 1970.
Mereana Grant's songbook, 1972
Manuscript songbook, by Mereana Grant of Ngati Porou. Photocopy of original bequeathed by Mereana Grant to Mrs Rangi Dewes, with typed introduction by Koro Dewes (then senior lecturer in Maori language) dated 1972.
