Abstract
Professor Witi Ihimaera is one of New Zealand’s foremost authors. Among his works are 'Pounamu, Pounamu'; 'Whanau','Maori', 'The New Net Goes Fishing' and 'The Whale Rider'. He has written novels, short stories, operas and a play, and has edited anthologies of Māori writing, winning many awards for his work. The film adaptation of 'The Whale Rider' has also received wide acclaim.

David Wylie was Deputy University Librarian at Victoria University of Wellington from 1968 to 1981 and University Librarian from 1981 to his death in late 1985.
He was also very involved in NZ Library Association affairs, and in the New Zealand Music Federation and the Anglican Church, as well as being a member at various times of the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO, the New Zealand Book Council, the Indecent Publications Tribunal and other bodies.
