Biographical / Historical
According to recollections by Dr. Les Cleveland, 'in the 1940s and 1950's there was nowhere the staff could congregate for social purposes. The student union was located in an old house with a tennis court and the students had access to a basement in Hunter where they could buy pies and cups of tea. The academic staff could get tea and biscuits from a small room next to the psychology department in Hunter which was equipped with a tea urn. In winter time some staff members used to warm food on top of the steam heaters in their studies.'
