Historical note
Weir House, a residential hostel for male students at Victoria University College, was built in 1932 using a bequest from William Weir, and occupied from 1933. A Residents' Association was formed in 1933. From 1979 on the hostel has admitted women students as well as men.
Weir House was overseen by a committee of Council and by a Warden, initially appointed from the University's teaching staff. The Council Committee ceased in c2003. The Warden's position was re-titled Residential Manager in 2003 and Head of Hall in 2008.
