Appraisal note
David Madle papers
12 August 2013 - Three boxes received for appraisal containing folders of material gathered in researching his PhD thesis: Patterns of death by accident, suicide and homicide in New Zealand 1860-1960, interpretation and comparisons (1996).
The boxes contained 13 folders, two published books and 2 photocopies of published books. Three of the folders contained photocopies of published chapters, articles and other material. The remaining folders contained notes taken using historical coroners' reports t archives New Zealand, along with photocopies of related statisitcal data tables.
Appraisal decisions made:
Destruction of published material on the grounds that it is not unique and will be noted in the bibliography of the thesis.
Retention of handwritten notes (uniquely collated for this research) and related data tables, which, while published, are kept here alongside the coroners' reports relating to these types of deaths.
