Custodial History
The bulk of this collection was transferred by Ngaire's step-daughter, Marilyn Duckworth, in 2010. Some earlier papers were included with a transfer of John Adcock's papers in XX. Both transfers were voluminous and disordered, with evidence of some re-arrangement prior to transfer. Some records, for example correspondence, publications and travel information, relate to both John and Ngaire, and some of John's papers were included in the 2010 transfer.
Therefore, some consideration was given to describing the records of John and Ngaire Adcock together as one collection.
However as the bulk of each collection related to one person, as each had published under their own name, and as there were series relating to each person before they met, it was decided to describe each collection separately. Researchers should be aware that joint correspondence has been placed in Series adcns0??, and that joint publications have been placed in both collections.
A series of diaries in the Papers of John Adcock includes diaries which probably belonged to Ngaire, but resources have not permitted their separation so far.
The papers include conference papers, article offprints, Psychology Department course notes and business, leave reports, research notes, and related correspondence. There are related university records bearing on NVA's involvement with Women's Studies, the Assoc. of Women Academics, and the Psychology Centre. There is some administrative material to do with NVA's private practice but no patient records.
The collection is almost cmpletely without order; although boxes appear to be well-labelled, the contents usually bear no or little relation to the heading, and the contents of each box range widely as to date and subject.
