Tommy’s Songs, 1917 - 1923
Scope and Contents
Contains a photocopy of war song ‘Jolly Good Luck to the Girl who Loves a Soldier!’ from Ernest Newton, ‘Tommy’s Book of Marching Songs’, (London: Francis, Day and Hunter, 1914), the front cover of which is also photocopied. Also contains photocopies of two editions of The Literary Digest, one of which addresses a song book titled “Tommy’s Songs” (Vol. 55, Dec 1, 1917, p 36). The Second discusses WWI war songs in general (‘The Hard-Boiled Songs of Aviators’, Dec 8, 1923, pp 48-51). There are handwritten annotations that often complete parts of the article that were cut off in the photocopying process.
