S.F. Broudy V’nam Folklore
Scope and Contents
Contains the dissertation of Saul F. Brody, ‘GI Folklore in Vietnam’, June 24 1969, the first draft of Broudy’s ‘AFS paper’ (1986) and some handwritten notes. The central topic of the collection is the ritualistic behaviour of Vietnam war soldiers including folk music, customs, speech, jokes and slang. The dissertation also includes song lyrics and appendices. In the AFS paper, Broudy establishes that his analyses of Vietnam soldier culture can from his one-year tour of duty in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
