Scope and Contents

Double-sided, laminated colour poster advertising an 'Anti-War Manifestation' march in Moscow on October 1, 1983. Printed in blue and white. Commissioned by the Soviet Peace Committee and published by the Novosti Press Agency.

Side one has the title: 'End The Nuclear Threat!' above a large photograph of hundreds of protesters carrying banners and slogans. Large-scale text at the bottom states: 'Moscow. Anti-War Manifestation, October 1, 1983', and below this is smaller text describing how 800,000 Muscovites marched in protest against aggressive US and NATO policy, and against the placing of US nuclear missiles in Europe.

Side two has the title: 'Let Us Avert The Nuclear Threat From Europe!' above six more photographs of protesters from the Moscow march. The right side of the poster also has the text of the 'Declaration by the Participants in an Anti-War Manifestation in Moscow', which is primarily concerned with keeping nuclear weapons out of Europe. Sticker on this side of poster states 'This poster is the property of the: Trade Union Education Authority, PO Box 6645 Te Aro, Wellington, (04) 852-938'.
