The posters were used in training courses around New Zealand by the Trade Union Education Authority (for further information about the TUEA see Most of the posters had been laminated. They were donated together with the Dan Long Union Library holdings.

Of the ca.400 posters in the collection, 357 are listed in this finding aid. There are duplicate copies of certain posters within and/or across different folders. In these cases, only one copy per folder is listed in the finding aid.

The posters were produced during the 1960s-1990s period by New Zealand and overseas groups, including trade unions, government departments, international labour bodies, and political, activist and cultural organisations. The collection include large sets of posters published by the New Zealand Public Service Association, New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, Accident Compensation Corporation, and Department of Labour. Over fifty posters were designed and printed by the Wellington Media Collective. Among the overseas sources with substantial numbers of posters are the Public Service Association of South Australia, Asian Center for the Progress of Peoples (Hong Kong), and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
