Scope and Contents
A collection of correspondence and newspaper clippings that are primarily focused on Mental Health treatment in New Zealand during the 1950s and 1960s. Specific attention is paid to Sunnyside hospital in Porirua and some of the correspondence is directly addressed to the health minister at the time, H.G.R. Mason. Some focus on how mental health is treated in the justice system. Also included is some correspondence with lawyer Michael Leggat in 2002, regarding his client, a patient at the facility. The publication date range is 1956-2002. The subject matter includes the Hulme/Parker case of 1954 and the Belcher case of 1955 into said date range.
