 Item
Identifier: clels4

Summary of contents

A collection of newspaper clippings, articles, and handwritten notes about Richard Pearse, the New Zealand claimant to the first flight of a heavier-than-air machine (possibly predating the Wright brothers). Two of the newspaper clippings make reference to Pearse’s biography ‘The Riddle of Richard Pearse’ by Gordon Ogilvie. The other documents discuss his general personal life, the directions he went in after fighting in WWI and where his engines are held (i.e the Museum of Transport in Auckland). The date range is c. 1972-1974.
