[Dated 1969-1971 from a caption which reads "Lucky people private parking 1970 reserved in Dunlop Terrace", and from the memory of Frank O'Leary, a University photographer c1970-1975.]
This series of images was created by University photographers for Prof. McKenzie of the Geography Department, in advance of proposed changes to inner Wellington as a consequence of motorway construction.
The images include two types of photograph:
1. Individual buildings
The following streets in the Te Aro area appear to have been covered in detail:
Aro Street (lower end near Willis Street), Webb Street, Arthur Street, Kelvin Grove, Footscray Avenue, Kensington Street, Palmer Street (lower end near Willis Street), Abel Smith Street (parts of), Martin Square, Corner of Buckle and Tory Streets, Corner of Buckle and Cambridge Terrace, Barker Street, Francis Street, Haining Street, Frederick Street, Tory Street (parts of), Taranaki Street (parts of), Knigges Avenue, Dunlop Terrace, Walter Street, Oak Park, Vivian Street (parts of), Buller Street, Garrett Street, Swan Lane (Parts of), Marion Street (parts of), Leeds Street, Jessie Street, College Street (parts of), Ebor Street (parts of), Tennyson Street, Dixon Street (parts of), Allenby Terrace (from The Terrace), Percival Street, Cuba Mall (parts of), Courtenay Place (parts of), Corner of Manners and Willis Streets, Church Street, Boulcott Street, Willis Street (parts of), Sturdee Street (now Victoria Street) parts of).
2. Panoramas e.g. Willis Street, Abel Smith Street, Vivian Street, from Abel Smith Street looking across the Aro valley, from The Terrace looking across the city, and from the roofs of the following buildings:

Some images have been digitised to increase research access. In July 2004, titles were added to the finding aid for those photographs which had not yet been digitised. Extra subject headings have not yet been added for these images.
