Bailey, Colin - C L Bailey Nursing Education Trust archives - Minutes, correspondence, finance, etc.
Content Description
The Trust was set up in 1972 following a spirited address given by Professor Colin Bailey in November 1971 to the nurses graduating from the School of Advanced Nursing Studies, in Wellington. Bailey was retiring from the Education at Victoria University and made a forceful argument for a university programme for registered nurses, something he had tried to instigate for many years bt felt had been blocked by the Department of Health which refused to support funding. Jocelyn Perry, a tutor at the School, took up the challenge to raise money for a nursing lecturer at Victoria and for grants for nurses studying at any university. Beatrice Salmon, Principal of the School, was appointed the first lecturer and the university programme began in 1993.
